DAISY Award

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The Foundation was formed in January 2000, by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The Daisy award is given to recognize the super-human work nurses do every day all over the country.

At Meadowview Regional Medical Center, DAISY Award honorees personify remarkable patient experience. These nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. They are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.

DAISY Award Nomination Form

Each DAISY Award Honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in their unit and will receive a certificate, pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled "A Healer's Touch." Additionally, everyone in the unit will celebrate with cinnamon rolls—a favorite of Patrick's during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.
