Meadowview Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Program Joins Markey Affiliate Network
March 13, 2024
Maysville, Ky. (February 16, 2024) – Meadowview Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Program announces a new affiliation with the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, the state's only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
April 2021, Meadowview Regional Medical Center Cancer Program entered into a formal collaboration with the UK Markey Cancer Center to help develop its oncology service line. The relationship strengthened patient navigation, psychosocial support, survivorship, and rehabilitation services with the ultimate goal of earning a full affiliation with the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network (MCCAN).
“Achieving Commission on Cancer Accreditation and our full affiliation with MCCAN not only shows the high level of credibility for our program, but also provides comfort to our patients and their families, knowing we provide quality cancer treatments close to home,” said Joe Koch, Market President and CEO of Meadowview Regional Medical Center.
In partnership with the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network, Meadowview’s Cancer Program is able to further enhance care for patients in the Kentucky Buffalo Trace Region and bordering Ohio Counties, while allowing patients to stay closer to home and utilize their local support systems for their treatments. Meadowview’s Cancer Program provides complex oncology services including diagnostic imaging, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
Meadowview’s Cancer Program offers onsite hematology and oncology services as well as a full-service infusion center providing chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Their state-of-the-art radiation treatment center is staffed with a board-certified radiation oncologist, two full-time radiation therapists and a nurse navigator who helps patients and physicians navigate available resources, services and treatments.
The UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network was created to provide high-quality cancer care for patients across the region, and to minimize the effects of cancer through prevention and education programs, exceptional clinical care, and access to research. The affiliate network is especially important for Kentucky, where cancer rates are the highest in the nation.
"Kentucky is home to some of the highest cancer rates in the country," said Tim Mullett, M.D., medical director of the UK Markey Cancer Center Affiliate Network. "The affiliate network provides a way for us to directly address this problem by providing access to programs and services that each hospital needs to fight cancer in their own region. We want patients to receive treatment close to home if they can, and Markey is here to provide advanced care and clinical trials for patients who have more complex cancers."
The UK Markey Cancer Center is one of only 56 medical centers in the country to earn an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center designation. Because of the designation, Markey patients have access to new drugs, treatment options and clinical trials offered only at NCI centers.
